So, my adorable Mac died. And I am dying.
I have no idea whether all my photographs stilll exist or not.
If not, I 'll kill myself.

Have you checked if it's just a battery that's died? MOst likely, it's a software problem. Even if it's hardware, there are plenty of Mac shops around that should be able to restore your data. At what cost, that is the question.
But you have made backups for everything, haven't you?
...I wish I were smart enough to think about it before it dies.
